The University of Texas men’s club water polo team shrugged off challenges from upstart programs Rice and University of Houston this past weekend at the CWPA Texas East men’s club water polo tournament. The ‘Horns rolled to a 4-0 tournament finish to round out the regular season with a 7-1 record. UT posted convincing wins against Rice and UH, defeating the Owls 13-7 and taking down the Coogs 13-5. Their performance earned UT the second overall seed in the upcoming Texas Division Championships later this month.
In the most competitive match of the weekend, Rice edged past the Coogs by a score of 5-3, helping Rice to finish with a 3-1 tournament record and a regular season record of 6-2. Rice’s only regular season losses came against UT and top-seeded Texas A&M. UH finishes the regular season with a 5-3 record after going 2-2 this past weekend.
With the division’s regular season completed the seeds and the brackets are set for the upcoming Texas Division Championships at Rice University on October 19-20 . The winner of that tournament will be the Texas Division qualifier for this season’s men collegiate club championship in Pittsburgh in November.
